(The Picture show that ALL Engineers inculde Electronic, Telecommunication, Manufacturing and Polymer Engineers)
Last night 30 March 2006 is Malaysian Cultural Night at Belfast. And this night is organised by MSSNI(Malaysia Student Society of Northern Ireland) Queen's University. This is the flagship event to promote our Malaysian culture and tourism to Northern Iraland meanwhile this is also a chance for all the Malaysian to gather together. Most of the Malaysia student here will study for Medical and Engineering at Queen as the good repetition for both field in the university. Secondly, all the profit of this night is going to The Anthony Nolan Trust which is a Belfast bone marrow transplant accosiation as the part of the charity purposes.
The ticket for the night is £20 as a member and this include of welcome drink, doorgift, a dinner in Wellington Part Hotel and some entertainment performances.
First i would like to commend on the welcome drink, for such a huge occasion the welcome drink should be red or white wine. But it is not, its just an orange juice. To bad.... Why? Because our Malay friends can not drink wine....
Then the doorgift which is a combination of the Malay "Batik",Chinese"Knotting" or known as "zhong kuo jie" and the beatiful Indian bangles. For this, i would say gorgeuos as they try to promote three big races in Malaysia which are Malay, Chinese and Indian.
And the dinner is served as below:
Starter:
Chicken satay served with an asian papaya salad.
(i would say is quite nice for the stater, especially the papaya salad very delicious)
Main Course:
Marinated Red Snapper with crispy stir fry vegetable with ginger and soy glaze
(it is a bit diffusion of chinese crusine with western food, served a big slice of boneless red snapper, baby potatos,a slice gralic bread, mix vegetable and boiled rice as well)
Dessert:
Tropical fruit salad with passion fruit sorbet
(the fruit salad is horrible, but the passion fruit sorbet is quite nice)
For the performances:
Opening Act: Faces of Malaysia
(3 different cultural dances molted into one modern music and topped with some Malaysia scenery multimedia presentation)
Musical Performance: Sounds of Malaysia
(Singing Malay classics called "Getaran Jiwa"by Malaysia most talended artist P.Ramlee and "Lagenda" by Sheila Majid, quite a lovely song but the singers not really perform well as the pianist accompany with excellent melody)
Indian Classical Dance: Bollywood Dance
(This is a vibrant and excitingly choreographed dance straight out of Bollywood. For me is the most excellent show in the night)
Musical Sketch: Hang Li Po
(An enticing love story with some funny 'take' in the sketch make the show more excited)
Closing: Indian Drums.
(The beat from 'dhol' which is a drum which is used for special occasions and festivals heat around the whole ballroom, and everyone is stand up and clap together with the tempo.Even some Irish, Indian and Committee also dance around.)
That all for the night, for myself i think is worth it to attend such function cause it might be my only oppotunity ever in my life. I enjoy it.....
